Masters Report May 2025

As the temperature drops, the Masters crew is embracing winter rowing and laying the foundations for a strong campaign towards next season — with Head of the Yarra firmly in our sights.

We’ve consistently been boating two — and sometimes three — eights several times a week. It’s been fantastic to welcome back Al Taylor, and to add Chris Riddell and Josh Dunkley-Smith into the mix. Their presence has injected fresh energy and experience into the squad.

A special shoutout goes to our much-loved coxes: Macy, Hunter, Lars the Viking, and our spirit animal Big Strangy — the glue that keeps us moving (mostly) in time!

Masters Highlights

Two significant wins for the Mercantile Masters this month:

  • Jason Nevins claimed silver in the Victorian Masters 8+ at the Australian Masters Rowing Championships in Sydney.
A massive year of hard work and determination paid off for Nevs, who earned his seat in the Victorian crew and helped drive it to a podium finish.
    Well done, Nevs!
  • Drew Ginn was awarded Life Membership of Rowing Australia — the organisation’s highest honour.
Drew’s impact on the sport is legendary, and his continued contributions across all levels of rowing make this a well-deserved recognition.
