October marked the first taste of racing for many of our Clubbies, and what a debut it was.
Men’s Squad
The men’s squad stepped confidently onto the start line, proudly representing Mercantile and showing spirit that defines the Guerin Club programme.
A standout moment came from Wilo in the Club Men’s Single (1x), delivering a powerful performance that turned heads and set a benchmark for the season ahead. The energy continued in the Club Quad (4x), where the crew combined rhythm and aggression to produce a strong race result that signals exciting things to come. Special mention goes to Dom and Spencer in the Double (2x) a pairing that showed real promise.
With confidence building, the men now set their sights on the upcoming regattas at Essendon and Rutherglen, where the entire squad will hit the water. These events will not only challenge the group technically and physically, but also help cement combinations as we move deeper into the season.
Off the water, recruitment is well underway. We’re actively welcoming recent school leavers and school rowers looking to take the next step in their rowing journey. The vibe around the shed is energetic, ambitious and growing by the week, a great sign for the summer ahead.

Women’s Squad
The women’s programme is surging forward with fantastic momentum. Numbers are up, boats are full, and the red and white is being seen on the Yarra in force as the women take to training with purpose and enthusiasm.
With a clear target in sight Head of the Yarra the squad has been putting in quality kilometres and sharpening technique across small and big boats alike. The commitment to training, team culture and progression has been exceptional, and the results are evident each session. The programme is not just growing in size, but in cohesion, skill and confidence.
Coaches and athletes alike are buoyed by the spirit in the group, and there’s a real sense that this year’s campaign is building towards something special.

Looking Ahead
Both squads are growing, learning and racing with pride living out the very essence of the Guerin Club pathway. As the days get longer and the racing calendar ramps up, excitement is building across the programme.
