The Guerin Programme continues to play a vital role in bridging the gap between school and senior rowing at Mercantile, offering a platform for young athletes to stay engaged with the sport while developing skills and confidence in a high-performance club environment. In recent months, the program has welcomed a new face at the helm of the Women’s Squad, with Roy Zhang stepping in as Coach. Roy brings great energy and technical insight to the group, and his commitment as a volunteer has already had a noticeable impact. The Committee would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Roy for generously giving his time and expertise to support our emerging athletes.
While the women’s program is in strong hands, we are still actively searching for a new Men’s Coach to take over from Jordan King, who has stepped down after a successful tenure. Jordan has played an instrumental role in the growth and consistency of the men’s squad within the Guerin Programme. His ability to guide and mentor athletes at a critical stage of their development has been a cornerstone of the program’s success. The club thanks Jordan for his dedication, effort, and countless early mornings over the past few years.
We also acknowledge the significant contribution of Nick Reynish, who has concluded his time leading the Women’s Guerin squad. Nick has been a driving force in shaping the program into what it is today—focused, competitive, and welcoming. His commitment to athlete development, alongside the tireless energy he brought to the role, leaves the Women’s Guerin group in a far stronger position for future seasons. The foundations laid by both Nick and Jordan have created a sustainable pathway that will benefit Mercantile’s next generation of senior rowers.
With winter training now underway, the Guerin athletes are preparing for a busy off-season of skill development, erg testing, and crew formation. The Club remains committed to supporting this program as a key pillar in its athlete pathway and encourages any prospective rowers—or coaches—to get in touch and be a part of what’s to come.
