Captain’s Report April 2025

Mercantile Rowing Club has a busy period underway, with several key developments to share.

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Susie Franklin as our new Junior Development Coach & Coordinator. Susie has been volunteering with the program and will formally begin her role in July. We anticipate her leadership will be a significant asset as we explore further opportunities for our junior rowers.

We also look forward to welcoming Scott Rowe as our new Head Coach in June. His experience will be valuable in shaping training programs for all our members.

The club remains committed to fair and transparent fundraising practices to support our athletes. The ongoing contribution from the Mercantile Foundation is also crucial for our long-term growth and objectives.

Members can look forward to upcoming social and fundraising events, including a planned auction. Details will be shared soon.

To improve communication, we will be launching a new club newsletter featuring important updates and a message from our incoming Head Coach. We are also working to enhance our presence on social media.

Our Club Rowing program continues to be a vital part of Mercantile, with dedicated leadership for our Women’s Program. We are focused on providing strong support across all our rowing activities and will continue to hold regular erg and bike nights for training and club engagement. We appreciate the commitment of our volunteer coaches.

We also want to acknowledge our Women’s Quad currently competing in Shanghai with their coach, Jordan Roberts. Additionally, we are proud of Mercantile athletes Anna Morrison, Summer Kelett, and Zara Bongiorno, who are preparing for the U23 Australian Team Trials in the US. We wish them the best in their pursuit of national selection.

Finally, as Henley Royal Regatta approaches, Mercantile Rowing Club extends its strong support and best wishes to the Wargrave Women’s Eight, the Prince Philip Junior Women’s Eight, and the Diamond Jubilee Junior Women’s Quadruple Sculls. We recognize your hard work and dedication and will be cheering you on from Melbourne.
