The Foundation is pleased to report that it has funded the purchase of two new pairs for the Club during September, further strengthening our fleet for the season ahead. We look forward to supporting additional equipment acquisitions throughout the year, alongside other key club priorities.
How the Foundation Works
The Mercantile Foundation is a capital fund built steadily over many years through the generous support of members, alumni and friends of the Club. Each year, 4% of the fund’s capital is distributed back to the Club in the form of grants that support:
- Boat and equipment purchases
- Athlete international seat fees
- Strategic club development initiatives
Your Donation Creates a Lasting Legacy
Every contribution, no matter the size, is permanently added to the capital of the fund, meaning your support continues to generate impact year after year, effectively working for the Club forever.
If you would like to learn more about how to contribute, or about the Foundation’s role in supporting our athletes and equipment, please contact myself.
Member profiles
A reminder that our website includes numerous profiles of members past and present. Recent additions and amendments include a profile of our patron Sean Colgan and also one of a less successful rower, but no less interesting, Don Williams.
Sean’s profile provides a brief insight into the depth of his contribution to rowing worldwide and his 51 year continuous membership of our Club. It is worth a detailed read.
Don’s profile is of a far less successful rower, but one who loved his time at Mercantile in the post WWII era. It includes a story of his heroic, but unsuccessful attempts to save a fellow sculler, and why Mercantile rowers were great blood donors.
Other profiles which received much viewing this month included the Late Brian Richardson and the Late Conor Grace.
Submissions for more profiles are always welcomed.
