Winter training has been in full swing for the Masters, with sessions running consistently on the water, on the ergs, and in the gym as we prepare for the Head of the Yarra. The commitment across the group has been impressive, with athletes putting in the hard yards despite the chill of mid-season. A highlight was our mid-winter 500m competition, which saw strong entries across the board. The standard was high, with most times around the 1:24 mark, until Christian Tomlinson stormed through to claim line honours with a blistering 1:21.8—an effort that set the bar for the rest of the squad.
Off the water, the Masters have also been focusing on strength and conditioning, with core stability topping the agenda thanks to a recently acquired fitness DVD. The added work has been a great complement to our technical sessions, ensuring that we’ll be moving into spring stronger and sharper. A special shout-out goes to our dedicated coxswains—Macy, Hunter, Amelia, and Billy—who have braved the cold mornings without missing a beat. Their energy and commitment have kept the boats running smoothly through the winter and will be crucial as we transition into racing season.
